“Nothing else can help you do better at yoga and yoga helps you do better at everything else.” - Jamie
Don’t let Jamie’s amazing practice or strong presence fool you – he is a big softie! Throughout his fun, powerful classes, Jamie is encouraging and playful. His sequencing is intentionally repetitive, following a condensed version of the Ashtanga Series A. Through the repetition, the body gains strength and memory, building upon the practice and allowing the body to open sequentially through the series in an intelligent way. Jamie emphasizes the physiology of the asanas with particular attention to breathing in the practice. This class is an important education for any student participating in Flow or Vinyasa style yoga. Jamie’s classes are warm, 85-90 degrees. His music is fun and enjoyable, with a mix of jazz, US/Indian, and world beats.
Jamie practiced Iyengar Yoga in Asia where he lived for many years before returning to the US and discovering Bikram (hot) Yoga. He
enthusiastically trained in Oakland, Houston, Vienna, Austria and then studied with Bikram Choudhury in Los Angeles where he earned his certification in 2002 and has since taught nearly 2,000 classes. Jamie completed Advanced Teacher Training at It’s Yoga in San Francisco in 2005 and earned a certification to teach the “Rocket Series,” Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga.
Jamie takes his teaching and training seriously. He can often be spotted attending class all over the Bay Area and has a dedicated practice of Ashtanga Yoga, Vipassana Meditation and Kundalini Yoga
with Guru OmDasji in the US and India. He has taught intermediate and advanced workshops in the Bay Area, Europe, South America and India.
Prior to dedicating himself to teaching yoga, Jamie held senior management positions for leading multinational companies like: Procter and Gamble, Citibank and International Paper and he currently consults to green businesses. Jamie earned a Master’s degree and occasionally guest lectures to MBA students at UC-Berkeley. He has a sixteen year old son.
