“Through yoga, we can learn to speak the language of the body. The body speaks of wholeness, of grace, of liberation. Spending time on the mat connects us to this understanding, guiding us to a sense of peace where the world is finally seen for the friendly and loving place that it is.” - Laurie
Laurie approaches her classes with a playful attitude and a curious mind. Her own practice is strong and she brings that sense of
strength and intensity to her classroom. Laurie believes that for many students, the intensity of the practice helps clear away negative energy from the physical and subtle bodies, allowing us to tap into the bliss that’s lying underneath. She is positive and encouraging and insists that it doesn’t matter what your body looks like, or how evolved your mat practice is – it is all about awareness, and devoting full attention in the moment. Her classes are warm, 85-90 degrees. No music is off limits to Laurie, she loves to mix it up and keeps the tunes as joyful as possible.
Laurie’s yoga journey began as an evolution of her work as a personal trainer and aerobics instructor. She noticed that with consistent yoga practice, her chronic lifelong depression and anxiety were relieved and she started integrating the yoga philosophy into her daily life. She completed her Teacher Training Program through Greenpath Yoga with Clayton Horton in 2002. Since then her studies in meditation, philosophy and Buddhism
have helped her find liberation on many levels. She continues her education in workshops, intensives, noticing that some of the best teachers in the nation are right in her global backyard. Laurie is an avid reader and has found that much of her own knowledge is experiential, that the most powerful way to learn about yoga is to simply practice the eight limbs in daily life, paying close attention to personal experience. She has dedicated herself to sharing the power of
yoga with as many people as possible. Laurie is the co-owner/director of Cosmic Dog Yoga and is registered with Yoga Alliance as an Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT).
Laurie lives in Danville with her husband Dan and their 3 kids: Brandon, Kieran, and Drew. She loves to read, play at the park, spend time with her family, and dabble in photography.
You can follow her many adventures as a bhakti yogi, wife, and working mom of 3 on her blog as she mixes the mystical with the mundane every day.
